No wonder, if Norek’s name rings a bell to Paeoni Music’s friends. The young producer owns one of the most memorable pieces in the blue chapter of Delays Remixed Series, but also in the entire series. Previously, his work in house genre has already caused some clamour around him under the alias Peter Koren, and now he is introducing himself from a whole new perspective. Arranged under the alter ego Norek, he turned to techno in terms of sound, but the five tracker EP hosted by Paeoni Music was clearly made with a house attitude.
Queing opens with overwhelming dynamism and doesn’t slow down later, obviously there’s no reason for it, the perfect dub-Detroit combos are always highly welcome at Paeoni. Its tight swing and gospel pulsation from the acidic bass and clapping tins, percussive coloring and well-timed, elegant drops are guaranteed to upset the dancefloor.
O.L.C.B.Y.H. is an electro in love, with a heart so big that it can fit the whole world. Based on the badass beats of the first minute, it is difficult to put aside the suspicious feeling of a strong Morgan Geist / The Galleria effect, but soon the composition takes a clearly different direction. The synths, which vary from stand to stand, stretch the string emotionally until euphoria and melancholy merge, and we bath in the “happy sad” mood of the best-hit cosmic house compositions.
The eight minutes of Falling are characterized by similarly structured and large-scale, but less dramatic rugs. The twist of the plot is, that the clearly positive vibe by itself, in the slightly acidic, chemically pure Detroit techno context is seemingly infantile enough on its own, is created by synthesizer voices reminding us of the ‘80s pop environment.
The perhaps slightly alarming mix on the paper works brilliantly, and Spacewalk continues to bring a fresh, bold approach. The grooves are well known from the ever playful Fabrice Lig school, while the similarly liberated Todd Terje returns in the mild cosmic and piano house aftertaste and bleep techno quotes.
It figures that Norek has a solid musical background, as he had quite an inspiration left for the fifth item, in every possible way. Perhaps the only gloomy, tough piece on this EP is The Hunter Will Get You, it even feels right to cite Titonton Duvante, Losoul and Carl Craig in addition to the aforementioned Fabrice Lig, but only in parentheses. The way his clicking ride departs from Motor City and reaches the stand, then changes tracks for short but wonderful moments, only to return to the original trail, it is suggesting an efficiency, that is only true to a real talent.
